CrescentWatch Announcement: Ramadan Begins Friday

CrescentWatch.Org did not receive any reliably confirmed reports of the new crescent moon being sighted in North America on Wednesday evening.
We will complete the 30 days of Shaban and begin Ramadan Thursday evening with the first day of the fast on Friday.

We are aware of the sighting reports in Chicago and New York and upon investigation, and consideration that no sightings occurred anywhere to the West or South, found them not reliable enough to establish the certainty required to begin this blessed month.

CrescentWatch.Org adheres to the traditional principal that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed, verifiable sighting of the new crescent moon. Click here for Zaytuna Institute’s Statement Concerning the Beginning of Ramadan.

Insha Allah, Ramadan will begin on Friday, the 14th!
Due to lack of any reliable sighting, first Ramadan will be on Friday, with first taraweeh on Thursday.

Faraz Rabbani notes:

People have been asking about “When do I begin?” I know of nothing more reliable than Zaytuna’s CrescentWatch initiative and the HilalBase project chaired by Imam Tahir Anwar. And Allah knows best.

Don’t Moonfight. Turn to your Lord in worship, submission, thankfulness, and love. Serve His creation, and uphold the truth in your life, in every way. Bring the light of the Prophetic example into your life. Remember the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should say the good or remain silent.”

God bless.
